Before Nine ended, EE and I decided to pick a new project of a drama that has never been recapped in full by anyone, at least not in English. Both of us are big PIE (Chun Jung-myun) fans so we chose What’s Up Fox? A Fall 2006 romcom also starring Go Hyung-jung, one of my favorie K-actresses of all time.
We will publish the recaps Monday/Tuesday as if it were a current show, giving us time between episodes to chat. It may be just the two of us going back and forth in the comments, but we’d love for you to join in!!
We start tonight, May 20. We are very very excited to do this.
Jomo: Why would anyone want to watch WUF if they haven’t already?
EE: It’s charming. It is written by Kim Do Woo, same person as Kim Sam Soon
Jomo: As far as the story, it isn’t predictable. The chemistry between the leads is amazing.
EE: People who like a good believable family dynamic. I hate it when people get cast and not only is there no physical similarity but their interaction/chemistry is stiff and weird and you just don’t buy that they’ve been around each other for 20 years or more.
It’s a good one for people who like light hearted over deep stabbity ANGST.
It’s also relatable to anyone who has been at a turning point: leaving school, going out on your own, getting out of a break up. It’s just as challenging at 24 and 34 and like mom at 54.
Jomo: People act true to themselves. There aren’t any second lead characters pulling sh^t and lying.
EE: Nobody is evil for the sake of the plot.
Jomo: There isn’t any jewelry product placement.
EE: Or telephone product placement
Jomo: No fancy cars or fancy apartments for the leads. No chaebols.
EE: No murder or rape.
Jomo: No geniuses. No evil In laws. You care about the people because…
EE: They seem real and they aren’t murdering raping genius chaebols.
Jomo: LOL With the leading lady, Go Byeong-hee, they never discuss her looks – like she never puts herself down and nobody goes around trying to convince us that she is prettier than most girls. She’s just average.
EE: I love her for being average. She’s not a Candy type or a princess. The lead male, Chul-su is a young man who struck out on his own to travel after high school who returns home to familiar folks but seeks to establish himself as a man rather than a child, and he is mechanically gifted.
Jomo: He doesn’t compromise. He knows what he wants. Remember when he [edited for spolers.] That is when SHOW made me sit up and say “HUH?”
EE: It was definitely a “Hello, Korea . . . is that YOU?” moment for me.
Jomo: There are sooo many reasons we can’t talk about now! For example, I really started to like the lead male, Chul-su, when he [edited for spoilers.]
EE: Unnffn That’s like one of my favorite moments in any drama, but we have to go back to reasons that aren’t spoilers. The music is good.
Jomo: What’s Up Fox? is romantic. It is funny. It is thoughtful. Saying anymore will reveal too much and give too many spoilers.
EE: I guess they have to watch it find out.
Yay for these recaps. I watched What’s Up Fox for the first time a few months ago, and the whole time I was wishing I could read someone else’s opinion of the show.
Haven’t watch it yet, so count me in for the journey! 🙂
Same here, new to me. I’m in. 🙂
So there with you. Love long hair on guys!
I have imagined how this drama would be different if it was re-edited to put scenes in a different order. Focusing on the emerging hormones and only getting glimpses of the one desired at the beginning of the drama might give a different vibe. It also would give THAT scene more of a sense of culmination. Basically refocus with a different protagonist. Just a whim of mine, as I don’t have any video editing software.
Grabs pop corn and magkeolli. Ready for the ride. Yeah for good oldies!
Yay!!
I love that there is a PIE tag ❤ ❤ ❤
🙂 btw I meant to say that this is an excellent point: “It’s also relatable to anyone who has been at a turning point: leaving school, going out on your own, getting out of a break up. It’s just as challenging at 24 and 34 and like mom at 54.” I actually never noticed that for the characters – that each of them are at turning points – some bigger than others.
Lovely initiative, for a very lovely drama!
I’m totally in (and might re-watch some of my favorites episodes with you, just because)! 🙂
I’m joining you guysss!!! Miss you guys already!
YES! It will be fun to have you and I love this show!
wait..where can I watch? it’s not on drama crazy?
I am at work and am blocked from streaming, but you can try different versions of the title.
Hey Fox, What You Want To Do? is strangely one version.
Fox, What Are You Doing?
There was one with Foxy listed, too.
Did you try Gooddrama?
K Dramaload (not sure of spaces) has it for viewing (free) or download (fee).
I can answer better this evening!

It’s also on Hulu (not sure about international access there), under the name Foxy Lady.
I love this show; it’s so heartfelt and romantic and true to life. It’s wonderful. I can’t wait to read all of your recaps! XD
Oh! Just stumbled across this! I think I heard something about a WUF recap and then forget the wheres and whens, so… yay! I look forward to reading them. 🙂
You guys should also do a review/recap on Spring Days. Even though it’s quite old (2002, I think?), it’s a Korean classic with average viewer rating of 30%. Go Hyun Jung is in it and she has a great chemistry with the guy actors (Did I mention that Jo In Sung is in it?). It’s really heartwarming!
Hmmmmm…..I will check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.
