When A Man Loves: This is Not a Recap ♥ First Impressions

I watched the first two episodes, and screen capped the heck out of it for you, thank you very much.

What do I think of this drama? Good question. If and when any of you watch this, and I totally recommend it,  you will be doing what I am doing…. Mulling… Hmmm… so much to like about it.  First of all, I am going to murderize JoAnne for getting this perfectly worded thought into my brain. “Oppa doesn’t want to be a gangster. Oppa reads French. Oppa does spreadsheets. Oppa wants to be an accountant.”

If you are worried about the facial hair, and the gangster thing, don’t. He goes legit soon enough and loses the pornstache with the men in black.vlcsnap-2013-04-05-20h11m37s232

The Hand Towel in love is like the cutest thing ever anywhere anytime. Little smirk here. A little shrug “What’s wrong with being near me?” there. Some may say it is a little too chaste, but we have to remember all of the money the clean companies have invested in their boy. He’s can’t be too sexy. He’s not an edgy actor, like, sigh, young Lee Jung-jae, or Ha Jung-woo. But you know, they give us a sympathetic guy, who is doing the best with his situation, and making good choices. I like Song Seung-hun as Han Tae Sang.

We have a heroine, Mi-do (Shin Se Kyung) who doesn’t deserve his love because she is pissy, and young, and, for god knows what reason is resisting him. To be fair, he almost destroyed her book store and bled on her books, so that explains it a little. Why does this work? They have great chemistry and are described as a pair that doesn’t match early on. Show is going to let us experience how their worlds collide and LOVE happens.

vlcsnap-2013-04-05-20h10m58s94(GOOD stuff after the jump. Promise.)
She and her dancing dongsang, Mi-joon (JB) as are sweet Seos. Both have dreams and are aiming high, too. (See what I did there.)

vlcsnap-2013-04-05-20h07m45s210Not too sure what she wants to be, though. We know she is feisty, and sticks up for herself and has a family to take care of.

We have the Lee brothers who are close, and I like both actors. Yun Woo Jin as  Jae-hee Kim Sung Oh as Chang-hee.  Jae-hee is the smart college grad and Chang-hee is, no spoilers, but let’s just say he has a lot of time to reflect.

So the good stuff?

WAML, however, is nothing, and I mean nothing like anything I have seen before.

There’s this:

vlcsnap-2013-04-05-20h28m24s65and later:vlcsnap-2013-04-05-20h27m22s205Then a little “putting on clothes” action. Riveting.asdfasdfvlcsnap-2013-04-05-20h21m42s137vlcsnap-2013-04-05-20h20m39s18I may have missed one.

Then, of course, there is:vlcsnap-2013-04-05-20h19m47s8

If they do not stop this I will be exhausted.

The SSH placement goes hand in hand with the PPL or Product placement. He is selling everything he touches, wear, uses, drives, sits in (tent) and in front of. Remember the windmills?  I try not to notice it, but that’s a little tough.

Meanwhile, I am in. I want to see how Show effs with all of these characters, and I want to see them have moments of happiness. Right now it looks like are OTP may have a shot, but next week, already there are rough(er) waters ahead.

For now, everyone yell, “SAY YES!”

I hate to make a comment with only the teensyest connection to THT here, but I will give it a shot: Did you ever get around to seeing Blue Salt (aka Hindsight)? Shin SeKyung was the female lead and she was pretty compelling. I saw it for the PIE, but he was barely in it (I did kinda know that going in). It was pretty good, character driven type story.

I did see and like Blue Salt. I, on the other hand, watched it for Song Kang-ho. Don’t forget her and Jan Hyuk in Tree with Deep Roots. Why do they keep pairing her with these older men?

Thanks for this first impression of this show. I have seen the first 2 episodes and I like it. I really enjoyed the Lee bros story, it got me kinda emotional when he told him that he might have to go away. It was seriously a very emotional scene & I actually cried lol

  3. dramabliss says:

OMG! i can barely breathe. Really have to watch this, if only for the Hand Towel’s shower scenes.

    • jomo143 says:

The shower scenes are nothing compared to all the other scenes. He’s crazy half-naked the all the time. I don’t understand it, but I like it.

  4. Julia says:

If I were SSH, I would feel a little exploited, but then he is so damn sexy! I will be watching.

I am wondering what is holding this girl back from liking SSH other than we have hours to go in the series and they never let the couple get together too soon. I was swooning at the “I’ll pay for all the interest” let alone all the rest. Does that make me shallow that him using his hard earned money to give her a chance for a better life makes me LOVE the gangster? The man took a knife for you!

Why why why isn’t she mad at the deadbeat Dad? 27 million won debt isn’t the same as maybe overspending a bit at Christmas buying gifts at the mall. Dad had to be a financial screw up and lying about it for some time to get to crisis point.

  5. kfangurl says:

SSH is acting-challenged, but man does he have a hot bod! ^^ Looks like they’re trying to make up for Dr Jin with lots of bare skinned SSH! XD Not necessarily a bad thing.. if he’s blinding enough, people just might forget? ^^

It really is something. My guess is all that abs sightings will slow down as we go. Only because these guys have to maintain such a grueling low fat diet to keep the 8 packs. He said once in an interview that normally he does have a stomach there. I’m sure it is not like most men, but still, that type of definition cannot be easy!!

      • kfangurl says:

That is true.. Most of the absy dramas I’ve seen pretty much flash all the abs within the first few eps.. Choi Si Won in Oh! My Lady comes to mind.. We got multiple sightings within the first few eps, then it petered out to none as the series went on. I guess it works for everyone.. The actors get to keep a more sane diet & workout regime as shooting goes on, while the fans are drawn in right away with the feast for the eyes? 😉

      • jomo143 says:

        Yep, that’s the pattern.

  6. Jo says:

Here’s what I want: I want a show like Say Yes to the Dress, but for abs. And I want to be on it. I want to sit in a swanky salon, sipping whiskey from a tea cup, and say ‘Wheeeeeeeel them puppies out here, boys!’ And then I want to drape myself in abs. Do these abs make me look short? Ok – I’ll try those abs over there. Those abs make me look washed out? Fine! These abs on the side look like they’ll emphasize my bustline – but wait: Back on the rack, there’s a set of abs that comes WITH a comfy tushy AND big warm hands. And you know what they say about big warm hands…

Anyway. End result, I go home with abs perfectly designed to accentuate all Mama’s….mmmm…perfectly fit for Mama’s grabby hands, let’s just say.

  7. tarianant says:

I don’t know which one is more swoon-worthy, the fact that he proposed to her out of the blue or the way he leans against the bookshelves… *sigh* leaning pose > abs

After episode two I think I’m gonna stick around just a little bit still dislike the whole plot, though.
Please do write about your juicy findings on future episodes.

  8. Enz says:

Yes YES Y.E.S.!!! Jomo!! There should be PPL for this piece you wrote. For the good of womankind and prob gay men everywhere, we need to have a safe place to share all that’s in our heads. Otherwise, ovaries and brains will explode!! I am loving THT in love too and I can’t wait for more.

  9. Enz says:

Omg, that scene of him in the white shirt leaning against the bookshelves?! How can any heterosexual woman fall asleep while that is in the same room with her?
